The Exact Wheel & Tire Cleaning Setup I Use (Step-by-Step Guide)

If your tires still look brown after washing your car… you’re not actually cleaning them.

Most people use basic soap and a sponge — but that won’t remove brake dust, road grime, and embedded contamination.

This is the exact process and products I use in my mobile detailing business (Designated Detailers) to get professional-level results.

🔥 Step 1: Break Down Heavy Grime (All Purpose Cleaner)

The first step is using a strong all purpose cleaner to break down:

  • Brake dust

  • Road grime

  • Tire browning

  • Built-up oils and residue

I use All Clean because it cuts through heavy contamination fast without damaging surfaces when used properly.

👉 This is what actually cleans the tire — not just makes it look better temporarily.

🧼 Step 2: Increase Cleaning Power (Foam Dwell Time)

After applying the cleaner, I foam the surface using:

Why?

Foam increases dwell time, which means the cleaner stays active longer and pulls more dirt out of the surface.

👉 This is one of the biggest differences between DIY cleaning and professional detailing.

🧽 Step 3: Proper Agitation (Where Most People Go Wrong)

This is where the real cleaning happens.

I use:

I scrub:

  • Wheel barrel

  • Wheel face

  • Lug nuts

  • Tire sidewall

👉 If you skip this step, your wheels are NOT fully clean.

🚿 Step 4: Rinse & Reveal

After agitation, rinse everything thoroughly.

At this point, you should see:

  • Completely clean rubber

  • No brown residue

  • Brake dust fully removed

✨ Step 5: Protect & Finish (This Is What Makes It Last)

Now we lock in the results.

I apply a professional tire shine for a deep black, clean finish.

👉 This restores the look and protects the rubber.

Quick Beads (Wheel Protection)

Then I apply Quick Beads to the wheels.

This adds:

  • Hydrophobic protection

  • Easier future cleaning

  • Reduced brake dust sticking

👉 This is what keeps wheels cleaner for longer.

🧠 Why This Process Works

Most people:

  • Don’t use strong enough cleaners

  • Don’t allow proper dwell time

  • Don’t fully agitate all areas

  • Don’t protect the surface

This system fixes all of that.
